Lincoln University is the nations oldest historically black liberal arts university. Since its inception, Lincoln has attracted an interracial and international enrollment from the surrounding community and region, and from the around the world. Founded in 1854, it is a nonsectarian, coeducational, state-related liberal arts institution offering baccalaureate degrees in the arts and sciences and a number of master's degree programs. Lincoln is located just outside of Philadelphia.
Lincoln's international involvement dates back to the late 1800s, and it is among the few institutions of higher learning to regularly offer five languages including the standard French and Spanish, and the less commonly taught Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese. Lincoln has offered Japanese since 1985. The university also offers a major in international relations.
