 You can begin your study with KCP during any of its term start times, and there is a wide variety of term options.
Semester Program
The semester program covers about 3 months of learning time, coinciding roughly with dates for United States college semesters. Semester options are Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. If you’re interested in a shorter summer program, see Summer Short-term Program.
Extended Programs
One of the results of full immersion at KCP is that the longer students stay, the more profound their acquisition and command of Japanese. The Spring and Fall 6-month extended programs, each as long as two KCP semesters, offer the opportunity for a more in-depth exploration of Japan, its language, and its culture. All of the extended programs are ideal for students who:
• want a more in-depth exposure
• are interested in working part-time while in Japan
• want to explore working in Japan for a while after the program terms.
Note: If you plan to take part in a KCP extended or academic year program, you need to plan ahead (at least 6 months in advance) for a student visa.
Note: If you enroll in an extended or academic year program, you can take the Culture Class only during your first term. Also, if you decide, while at KCP, to stay for another semester or two and remain in KCP-arranged housing, you cannot repeat the Culture Class after your first term of study.
Note: At this time, KCP can offer homestay as a possibility only during the first term of your study. If you have selected homestay and will continue for a further term, you will most likely be placed in a dormitory during the remainder of your time at KCP.
Academic Year Program
Academic year programs run from approximately October through June. Academic year programs equal three KCP semesters.
Summer Short Term Program
This program provides a summer program in Japan with a schedule more convenient for students attending universities in the United States. The program is met with great enthusiasm from students and recent college graduates alike,. Important enhancements to the program include more language instruction, exciting new excursions, cultural activities, and a lower cost.
The summer ‘Short-Term’ program differs from the summer program because the normal summer program is the same duration as a semester and is short enough to fit between the academic year of most colleges.
This program appeals to:
• Students wanting a ‘short-term’ study abroad experience concentrating on Japanese language skills.
• People who want a meaningful, stimulating summer study experience in Japan.
• Students and college graduates whose interests or career plans lead them to Japan.
• Students who want to acquire one year of university-level Japanese language credit.
