Tokyo: Home of KCP

Tokyo is the capital city of the island nation of Japan, “Land of the Rising Sun”. Tokyo is a bustling metropolis and is considered to be one of the world’s most populous cities.

The once small castle town during the 16th century is now home to over 13 million people from all walks of life. Tokyo embodies the rich history, culture, and awe-inspiring progress of Japan and its people throughout the centuries. It makes Tokyo one of the best places to live and learn when in Japan.

Tokyo was initially called Edo, literally meaning “estuary”. The name was changed to Tokyo, (Tōkyō, 東 tō”east”, and 京 kyō “capital”) when it was considered as the imperial capital upon the arrival of Emperor Meiji in 1868. Today, Tokyo is one of Japan’s 43 prefectures consisting of 23 central city wards and numerous cities, towns and villages west of the city center.

Tokyo has almost anything and everything from cultural spots such as historical shrines, temples, gardens for sakura viewing and museums. The city also offers  some of the best shopping spots to find the quality products for the thrifty and even high end couture for the fashion conscious.

Getting around Tokyo is very convenient and efficient. Tokyo’s train and subway system is a series of reliable, convenient, and comfortable network of state of the art carriages that can get you around the city and even out of it in hardly any time at all. Aside from taxis and buses, if you’re keen on getting some exercise, the city is a great place for a walk or even a bicycle ride to enjoy the sights.

Japan is ranked as one of the safest countries in the world. The country has an incredibly low crime rate. Though Tokyo is a generally safe place for visitors, it’s still important to practice caution.
